Abbott Laboratories is one of the world leading pharmaceutical companies, operating manufacturing and administrative facilities in Egypt to international GMP standards. Abbott Egypt selected Van Tech as its MEP partner to deliver mechanical, electrical, and fire protection systems at its 5th Settlement facilities, given the exceptional requirements for environmental control and fire protection in pharmaceutical environments.
Scope of Work
The scope included: precision HVAC systems achieving stable temperature and humidity required in pharmaceutical environments, FM200 fire suppression protecting manufacturing areas, warehouses, and server rooms, and specialized ventilation systems ensuring indoor air quality. Durations ranged from 6 months for the administrative branch to 8 months for the full pharmaceutical facility. All systems were delivered per international FDA and WHO standards.
Challenges & Solutions
The pharmaceutical environment imposes unparalleled challenges: clean manufacturing rooms require precise temperature and humidity control within a tolerance of no more than ±1 degree Celsius, while drug storage areas demand continuous uninterrupted cooling. Abbott also imposed strict GMP validation and documentation protocols for every installed system. We overcame these challenges with an engineering team specialized in pharmaceutical facilities and comprehensive technical documentation.
Outcome
Abbott Egypt facilities were handed over passing pharmaceutical IQ/OQ/PQ validation protocols on the first attempt. Van Tech achieved full compliance with international GMP standards across all installed systems. This achievement established Van Tech as a contractor capable of delivering pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities to global standards.
